Instant interpreter/translator in Cairo

interpreter/translator in Cairo

This time, was different because DW Akademie (Deutsche Welle) was supposed to do its workshop in Port-Said city, one of the nicest Egyptian cities of the Suez Canal, which lies in northeast Egypt, north of the Suez Canal.
Port Said is considered the third economic city in Egypt after Cairo and Alexandria, food processing, chemical industries, cigarettes, and fishing are the bases of its economy. It is also a vital harbor to export Egyptian products such as rice & cotton, and a station for ships that pass through the Suez Canal.
It has tourist importance because it is a stop for ships that make quick trips to Cairo like “Costa cruising” ships, it has been a cosmopolitan city since its establishment by Said Pasha (one of the kings of the x royal family) in 1859; a lot of Mediterranean nationalities lived in it.
But at the last minute, it was decided to hold the workshop in Cairo, DW Akademie invited the participants to come to Cairo and the workshop was held at El Masry EL- youm (Egypt Today) newspaper that was established in 2004
On the fifth day, al Ahram (the pyramids) newspaper invited the teamwork, Coordinators, participants, and me as the consecutive interpreter-translator.

Instant interpreter/translator in Cairo
The visit to Al Ahram was really interesting as it was established in 1875, so it is a part of the modern history of Egypt.
It was much work for me this time because I was the only consecutive interpreter, Osama who used to share the mission of the consecutive interpretation with me, had another mission as he gave lectures about creativity to the participants.
I can tell that I am happy about my experience as a consecutive interpreter/translator and that I achieved important progress in it.

Akhenaton pharaon de l’Égypte

Akhenaten Pharaoh of Egypt

Akhenaten Pharaoh of Egypt

Akhenaten Pharaoh of Egypt
Akhenaten pharaoh of Egypt, the first call to monotheism, his first name is Amenhotep IV (Amun is satisfied), son of Amenhotep III and Queen Tiye.

At the Pharaonic time, Egyptians, believed in many gods, we can say that the gods for them is a responsible, the goddess Nut; “the sky goddess is responsible for directing the sky”, Geb; “the god of earth, is responsible for the earth”…. And also every city had its protective triad, and then, the Egyptians could worship several at the same time.
Amenhotep IV began to revolt, he said, many gods, this is not possible, it cannot be possible, there is only one god.

He starts looking the strongest force in Egypt, he finds that it must be the strength hidden behind the solar disk which directs it, he changes his name, instead of being Amenhotep (Amun is satisfied), it becomes AKH- n -Aten (the faithful to Aten).

He cancels the existence of all other gods, he destroies the temples of god Amun in Luxor (Karnak and Luxor), so that, he can no longer stay in the capital Thebes (Luxor) where there is the power of the priests of Amun god, he goes down the Nile, and installs his capital Akhet- n -Aten (the horizon of the god Aten) now called tell el Amarna.

Akhenaten was married to Nefertiti, they had six daughters, and he, with another woman had his son Tutankhaten who later becomes Tutankhamun.

The era of Akhenaten creates a new artistic style, realism or naturalism.
The artist is free to represent the pharaoh in a real representation, apparently, he could Also exaggerate, and for the first time in Egypt, he can present the Pharaoh with his family on a family representation.

Even the daughters of Akhenaten had a strange representation.

Several explanations for the strange representation of Akhenaten, some Egyptologists say that he was sick and he had more female hormones than the male hormones, others find that he wanted to unify the two sexes in a single body, a third Group guess that it was the beginning a whole new artistic style (caricature) .

Akhenaten Pharaoh of Egypt

Akhenaten remains in Egypt as a pharaoh for 17 years; he neglected everything except inviting Egyptians to believe in one God, EVERYTHING else was totally ignored.

The Egyptians showed a belief, but we discovered that they made statuettes of their former divinities; of course, it was very difficult to have a quick change of beliefs and habits after centuries of adoration to their former gods.

After Akhenaten‘s death, the priests of god Amun said that he was a heretic, they got a revenge of him, erased his name, destroyed his monuments and rebuilt the temples of Karnak and Luxor again, worship and offerings to multiple divinities back again, and they said; we should cancel the name of Akhenaten from the Egyptian history.

There are many books and studies to know the truth of Akhenaten, such as “Akhnaton” is a play by Agatha Christie. It was written in 1937
Some Egyptologists said that he was really a believer and mystical because when we read his prayers for Aten, they are much like the Bible and the Quran.

Other Egyptologists found that he was a wise because the Egyptians gods were adored only by Egyptian, and so we wanted a worldwide one so that the whole empire would worshiped him

A third group thinks that he did not have the physical strength like the other pharaohs, and that’s why he invented this new religion to impose his existence.
Or, we can consider Akhenaten as a prophet came to prepare the mind to receive monotheism before the arrival of Moses.

Akhenaten Pharaoh of Egypt

Who was Akhenaten!!  what was Akhenaten?!! believer?!! smart?!! prophet?!!

he left and his truth left with him, but he left us a very important spot in the Egyptian history, the first call to monotheism.

Néfertiti reine de l’Egypte

Nefertiti Queen of Egypt

Nefertiti Queen of Egypt

Nefertiti Queen of EgyptNefertiti Queen of Egypt, “which means the beautiful is coming” is a legendary beauty, she is the wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten (Amenhotep IV), and the stepmother of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun, because of her name, there is a doubt that she is a foreigner.

she played a religious and political role in Egypt during the 18th dynasty, 14th century B.C.
Nefertiti Queen of Egypt, changes with her husband the cult, they searched for a unique god, they searched for the greatest force in Egypt, they found that it must be the force hidden behind the sun disk which directs it, they canceled the existence of all the other gods and they changed the capital and went down the Nile to create and build their new capital “Akhet-n-Aten” (horizon of Aten) today called “Tell El-Amarna” that they established the first stage of monotheism in Pharaonic history, Nefertiti shared power with her husband Akhenaten, seen to beat the enemies, she was also the priestess of God Aten.

Nefertiti Queen of EgyptNefertiti and Akhenaten created a new artistic style; absolute freedom was given to the artist, he could go inside the palace of the pharaoh and represent him in a real representation with his defaults (it was exceptionally) you can see them as a family with their daughters under the protection of the sun disk which sends its rays ending with hands that give life, Nefertiti and Akhenaten are intermediaries between this life and the people.

Nefertiti head Egypt

The bust of Nefertiti, which is located in the Museum of Berlin in Germany, made her famous, she has another unfinished bust at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, and both of them are considered as masterpieces of the Egyptian art.

Her end is like her origins, UNKNOWN

We don’t know yet where does the legendary queen sleep?
A lot of secrets are expected to be discovered by her UNFOUND mummy!!!

and here’s a video “Nefertiti and the Lost Dynasty” worth watch

Instant translator with DW academy in Alexandria was my second experience with DW academy, last time, I interpreted the workshop that was in Aswan and I explained it already in my previous post (Oral interpreter in Egypt with DW Akademie)
Workshop by DW Akademie to develop the skills of Egyptian female media students and graduates.
This time the workshop was more alive and creative, because of Tine Mikliss, the responsible for the project in Egypt, in additional to what participants learned and practiced in Aswan, she invited Egyptian youth from Alexandria who had creative ideas and could struggle to make their project succeed and their ideas become facts.
Hossam-AbdelkaderHossam Abdelkader, the founder of the first on-line magazine in Alexandria (Amwague) in 1999
studied in Alexandria University, Worked at Bibliotheca Alexandrina and he is), he was a journalist, and then went to a conference in Germany in 1996, and he found the German journalists using their computers, he knew about computer and he realized that he must learn about internet and that a change must happen in Egypt, so he established the first on-line magazine, and then, he began to establish a local newspaper, although, he had financing problems, but it did not stop him, volunteers helped; now they have established a cultural club, and he is training students from Alexandria University.

Ahmed-EssmatAhmed Esmat, founder, director of “Alex agenda”, founder and CEO of “Alexandria media forum”, he studied at the faculty of commerce, English department, Alexandria Uni. Egypt

Omar-HatemOmar Hatem, founder of Café tram, CEO and founder of “Radio tram”, he is a teacher, studied at the faculty of arts, Alexandria University.

All of them, had new creative ideas, that seemed to be difficult to realize at the beginning, and all of them had a financing problems, what is good about it is that all of them profited out of volunteers (human resource).

The last day, DW akademie, invited local journalists from Alexandria, it was a good chance for the female participants to profit out of their experiences and also to practice all they have learned during the workshop (to present themselves in a good manner, to profit out of the elder journalists experience and to ask for a further contact (speed dating).
At the end, Tine matched every graduated girl with a monitor for 6 months to guide them.
DW akademie developing their project in Egypt, more workshops in different cities, and then, they will choose 2 participants from each city to join a higher level of a workshop.

DW akademie will have a big conference in Egypt in DECEMBER.

Personally, I thank Tine Mikliss “the German manager of the project”, and I thank Rasha elibiari “the Egyptian responsible”, and of course, Osama Asfour “Project Coordinator”, the first who found me through my private tour guide website and had a contact with me to ask me to do the mission of the instant translator with him.

Cairo and Alexandria visits with a private tour guide in Ramadan – EgypteAbir

Cairo and Alexandria visits with a private guide in RamadanCairo and Alexandria visits with a private tour guide in Ramadan are still interesting and possible to be visited; you can still visit the touristic attractions such as Memphis, Sakkara, Giza pyramids, the Egyptian museum etc…, you just have to take care about the timing because all the touristic sites close one hour earlier, it means at 15 O’clock, instead of 16 O’clock.

I spent a very interesting week with Mohan and Diana’s family during Ramadan Month, Disna and Mohan, from Sri lanka, residence in Cairo since 17 years, wanted to organize a program for their relatives and let them know about Cairo’s points of interests.

The program was interesting and varies because it covered the most important touristic sites in Cairo and Alexandria as well.

The first day, we went to visit Memphis, the first Pharaonic capital of Egypt, Sakkara, the Giza pyramids and the sphinx with the solar museum. The next day, they took the airplane to go to visit Sharm El sheikh to enjoy spending time on one of the nicest red sea resorts, After they came back to Cairo, they wanted to see the sound and light show in Giza pyramids, it begins at 21 o’clock in Ramadan, and it lasts for one hour, the following day, was a rich day of visits, we went to visit the Coptic area or old Cairo, it was a Sunday, so we could attend the mass in the hanging church, saint serge church, we also visited Saint George church and the syna gouge  of Beni Ezra, and then we went to visit the citadel of Saladin with Mohamed Ali’s mosque (the alabaster mosque), Egyptian museum at El tahrir square where we find the treasures of king Tut Ankh Amun, we ended our day with the visit of the cave church (saint Simon).

Monday, was our visit to the pharanoiac village, it was still open in Ramadan’s day, less tourists, you can go any time from 9 o’clock to 16 O’clock, and they begin their program to make you travel through centuries to live in the Pharaonic time, we admired the copy of the tomb of Tut Ankh Amun (the original one is in the valley of the kings in Luxor, we visited also the Islamic museum, president Sadat‘s museum and the ladies museum.

After noon, we went to El Azhar, to visit Khan El Khalili bazzar, Mohan’s family made a tour in all its shops, all of them benefited.

Visits of Alexandria with a private tour guide

Tuesday, we went to Alexandria, the second important city in Egypt, where we visited the Catacombs of Kom El shokafa, Pompey’s pillar, the royal gardens of king Farouk on the sea shore, the roman theater and Quait bay fort from the outside.
The family wanted to visit a modern area, so that they went to Cairo festival where they bought some of Ramadan oriental sweets.

We ended our trip with a cruising diner on the Nil with Egyptian music I think that Mohan’s family could cover most of the important attraction in Cairo and Alexandria in Ramadan.

It was a very nice time that I spent with Disna and Mohan’s family, it was my first time with people from Sri lanka, I can tell that they are a very kind people.
So, i thank Disna, Mohan and their relatives for the nice time that we shared together.

Oral interpreter in Egypt with DW Akademie is my new experience, it all began when Osama Asfour, the “project coordinator, Egypt Deutsche Welle Akademie” contacted me throw my web site, and asked me to accept the mission of the oral interpreter in Egypt with DW Akademie, I accepted his offer, it was a new experience for me especially when he sent me the Agenda and I could read the interesting subjects that I will get the chance to know more about and to translate.

The experience was unique and very interesting, I moved to Aswan, and asked him to let me meet the persons whom I am supposed to interpret with them.
I met Consrtanze Abratzky and Tine Mikliss, they were friendly and helpful and they could break the ice, they explained that DW Akademie is a German official association, 50 years old and it has a TV channel that we could compare it with the BBC.
The project calls

Visites en Egypte

Visits in Egypt

Dear friends who have made visits in Egypt with me
It always makes me thankful to hear that my dear clients who became friends are happy because a very important part of the guide profession is the cultural and personal exchange.
Here is one of our pretty stories;

Visits in Egypt
I received a request from Mr and Mrs Freyburger
Who were looking for a private tour guide who can guide them in the following locations:

Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx
Dashur (Red and Bent Pyramids), Saqqara ( Pyramid, and Serapeum) … –
Cairo Archaeological Museum (Egyptian museum), Saladin Citadel with Mohamed Ali’s mosque (alabaster mosque)

And they asked whether the program can be modified depending on interests and discussed preparation for the next day.

Eric&Francoise at Saladin's citadel
They said among the experiences they want to do is to go inside one of the pyramids of Giza and they are also interested in all that concerns the metaphysics of the history of these places, then they asked if it’s also a part of my interests?
I accepted their request with a pleasure, I offered them a visit program that they accepted, and while Cairo visits, I proposed to change the days of visits to take advantage of the spring feast to avoid the crowd in Cairo and visit Giza pyramids instead of Cairo museum, Eric and Francoise accepted my proposition.

On the Giza plateau, I offered them a ride camel that they accepted and appreciated.
Eric on a camel in front of Giza pyramidFrancoise and Eric thanked me, and it gives me great pleasure to know that my friends customers are happy with their trip with me and I appreciate the comments they wrote on Tripadvisor.
I also have many benefits from the advices given by Eric and Françoise and I took advantage of their experiences on the professional and personal backgrounds.
I thank all my dear customers for their trusting to make their visits in Egypt with me, for giving me much advices to improve myself on all fields, for writing comments either on Tripadvisor , on my Guest book or on Facebook page “EgypteAbir” because it makes the Tourists who want to make visits in Egypt to travel with me and for the pleasure that you give me every time when I share visits in Egypt with you.

Luxor visit and its surrounding with Abir

Visit Luxor and its surrounding with Abir.

It is my big pleasure to hear from my dear client friends about their satisfaction and good experience when they traveled with EgypteAbir, either when they add a positive comment on TripAdvisor, Facebook account, or when they send me pictures or add them on their Google+ account.
Thank you very much Sylvie & Patrice for the very big personal and professional satisfaction that you gave me.
Luxor visit and its surrounding with Abir - March 2015 Sylvie Patrice

We stayed as a couple for a week in Luxor in March 2015. The program that we had set ourselves was validated by Abir, guide and representative of the EgypteAbir. Abir was commensurate with our expectations. With its demands on its service (timing, vehicle cleanliness, politeness, concern for safety, protection against commercial harassment, good advice for food), our tour was a total success in peace, serenity and ease. We have always had the free choice to accept or refuse a tip for a restaurant. Abir is a very educated person. After years of experience in tourism and traveler accompaniments, Egypt has no secrets for her. her comments were the measure of each visited site. Beyond her professionalism, Abir is a very pleasant person. Open to all our questions and our suggestions of changes to our daily schedule, she has to improvise and change our schedule. A big “thank you” to Abir for this first gateway to Egypt with memories that will remain ingrained in our memories.
Without hesitation, our next trips to Egypt will be validated by Abir.
Feel free to visit the areas validated by the Quai d’Orsay. We also dived in the Red Sea. The transfer by private car from Luxor organized by Abir was carefree. There are no more risks than in France. On two consecutive years of diving trips, the population shows no animosity against us (French tourists).
Thank you to its local service providers who can be worthy of the professional ethics of Abir.

– Sylvie

Alexandrie le premier port de l’Egypte

Alexandria the first port of Egypt

Alexandria the first port of Egypt Alexandria the first port of Egypt, it’s second largest city, it is in the north of Egypt and west of the Nile Delta, extending about 30 km along the coast of the Mediterranean, Founded in 331 BC by Alexander the Great. Alexandria was the Egyptian capital during the Greco-Roman period (331 B.C.) until the arrival of the Arabs (640 A.D.) Several civilization met in this city , Pharaonic, Greek, Roman and Arabic, that is why, the Library of Alexandria is really important. The city was always cosmopolitan, a mixture of different cultures, Egyptians, Greeks and Italians.

Alexandria is now considered as the first summer resort for the Egyptians, despite the existence of others such as Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh, and it is the Egyptian city that has Greco Roman monuments (the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, the Column Pompey and Serapeum), Islamic monument (Qait Bey Citadel which replaces the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world), and monuments that date back to the era of royalty (the palaces of kings Farouk ) and today, its new library inaugurated in 2002, that makes is a touristic city.
For many Egyptians, when we say the summer, that means Alexandria with its theaters, cinemas, shops and restaurants.

le monument de Maspero au Caire

Maspero monument in Cairo

Maspero monument in Cairo The idea began at the time of president Nasir, the second president of Egypt when he thought about building this huge monument which is Maspero, the home of radio and television, Maspero monument in Cairo  was achieved in 1960 to celebrate the 1952 revolution
When you visit Cairo, and cross the Nile on the Kasr el-Nil Bridge, at your left-hand side you see this round monument which is the home of the radio and television in Cairo, or Maspero, named after the French Egyptologist Gaston Maspero whom was the Head of Egyptian Antiquities Authority.
Cairo Radio was founded in 1953, it has international distribution, it broadcasts different types of culture talk and news, headquartered in Cairo
I was invited by Sara a radio broadcaster in the radio of Cairo in French for French speakers and French citizens who live in Egypt, at Maspero monument in Cairo, We talked about the festival Sham al Nassim (the Spring Festival) festival known by the Egyptians for over 5000 years and we also spoke about customs that are practiced by Egyptians today that date back to the pharaonic period like eating salted fish, lettuce and union.

Sara, Mona and Abir Abir at Maspero
For me it was a great pleasure to talk to Sara and Mona, the facilitators at the Cairo radio, I am also proud to pass this unforgettable experience, having entered inside this historic building that is the home of radio and Cairo television.
